Listen & Diagnose
Hear a real car problem, name the part that's causing it, then explain it to the customer the way a service advisor would.
Skills it uses: listening, problem-solving and explaining something technical in plain words.
Most of the people who do well at our dealerships didn't start out knowing cars. They started out good with people, good under pressure or good at getting details right. Try four short challenges built from real work at Carter Myers Automotive and see which one feels like you.
We can teach you the vehicles, the systems and the process. What we can't teach as easily is how you treat people and how you handle a busy day. Those come in two kinds, and you've been building both for years.
Soft skills are the habits and instincts that make customers trust you and teammates want to work with you. They show up in every role at CMA, from the showroom to the service drive.
Transferable skills are practical abilities you picked up in another job, in school, in the military or at home. They carry straight over to a dealership, even if you've never worked on a car.
A few of the paths we see all the time. Yours might look different, and that's fine.
| If you've worked in… | You already know how to… | It could fit |
|---|---|---|
| Restaurants | Keep a lot of orders moving at once, keep guests informed and stay friendly when it's busy | Service Advisor |
| Retail | Greet people, find out what they're looking for and help them make a decision | Sales Consultant |
| Warehouse or stockroom | Find the right item fast, keep inventory accurate and ship it right the first time | Parts Specialist |
| The military | Follow procedures exactly, work with equipment and lead under pressure | Technician or Apprentice |
| An office or front desk | Schedule, answer the phone, keep paperwork accurate and spot what's missing | Office & Administration |
Each challenge is based on a real part of the work at our dealerships. There's no wrong answer about which one to start with. Play one, or play all four.
