No automotive experience required

You may already have what it takes for a career in automotive.

Most of the people who do well at our dealerships didn't start out knowing cars. They started out good with people, good under pressure or good at getting details right. Try four short challenges built from real work at Carter Myers Automotive and see which one feels like you.

What we actually hire for

Your skills matter more than your résumé.

We can teach you the vehicles, the systems and the process. What we can't teach as easily is how you treat people and how you handle a busy day. Those come in two kinds, and you've been building both for years.

Soft skills

How you work with people

Soft skills are the habits and instincts that make customers trust you and teammates want to work with you. They show up in every role at CMA, from the showroom to the service drive.

  • Listening to hear what a customer actually needs, not just what they said first.
  • Explaining clearly so a technical problem makes sense to someone who isn't technical.
  • Staying calm under pressure when the lot is full and every customer is in a hurry.
  • Reliability: showing up, following through and doing what you said you'd do.
  • Curiosity and a willingness to learn, because the technology changes every model year.
  • Teamwork. Sales, service, parts and the office all hand work to each other every day.
Transferable skills

What you've already done somewhere else

Transferable skills are practical abilities you picked up in another job, in school, in the military or at home. They carry straight over to a dealership, even if you've never worked on a car.

  • Customer service from retail, restaurants, hospitality or any front counter.
  • Multitasking and prioritizing, like juggling tables on a Friday night or orders at a busy counter.
  • Attention to detail from inventory, data entry, bookkeeping or quality checks.
  • Troubleshooting from fixing things at home, building a PC or figuring out why something stopped working.
  • Following procedures and working safely, from the military, manufacturing or a warehouse.
  • Leading a team, whether that was a shift, a squad or a sports team.
